So far we have presented the works of Jarmila Džuppová together with Marika Vicari, Lucia Dovičáková and Ina Loitzl, Rastislav Podoba and Jernej Forbici. The current project shows the latest works of two painters – a Slovak painter František Demeter and an Austrian painter Christian Bazant-Hegemark.
The current exhibition aims is to confront two different approaches to painting that, however, do have something in common. The title of the exhibition „Sharing a room“ not only refers to a single idea of sharing a gallery space but also reflects how the juxtaposition of the works opens the new interpretation framework.
Each of the artists explore the mimetic aspect by questioning representation in painting. A figurative painter Christian Bazant-Hegemark works within a long tradition of a perspective and realistic painting. His geometrical compositions of space are filled with the vague situations bringing the sense of discomfort and tension in the viewer. His experimentation in the medium of painting questions the borders of a representation. The exhibition includes the selection of the author´s latest drawings as well. The abstract and monochrome paintings that are typical for František Demeter are combined with figurative motifs and architecture structures in his latest works. His paintings are often over-painted leaving or re-working the original concept. The finely executed bleak almost raw monochromatic canvases bring a discomforting visual experience.
